CHARACTER INFORMATION

NAME: Lincoln
CANON: The 100
AGE: Mid-twenties, most likely. (Actor is 33, but Octavia's actress is 29 … so I think this is a CW casting thing.)
CANON POINT: 2x10, "Survival of the Fittest."

BACKGROUND: Lincoln at fan wiki | The 100 at Wikipedia.
INCENTIVE/FIT: Lincoln comes from a world where his people are controlled by a need to survive and their opposition to a group of individuals called the Mountain Men. The former is because they are living in a post-apocalyptic society, and the latter is because the Mountain Men have created myths and legends to control the "Outsiders," who they also refer to as savages. As a result of these two rather stark things, Lincoln is very used to a dog-eat-dog world that doesn't cut corners. He is a scout and a warrior, and he has seen a great deal of stuff. In his society, warriors have marks on their backs for their kills, and Lincoln has several of these. In addition, Lincoln has been forced to engage in this dark life even if he's always had a defiant streak, and at one point tells Bellamy that "the world has been trying to turn [him] into a monster for as long as [he] can remember."

As a result of this, Lincoln would value consent and absolute control over his life. He has always seemed to want it, and will engage in that at any cost. When he falls in love with Octavia, he betrays his clan for her on multiple occasions, and ends up known as a traitor to his people. They come to associate him with the Sky People instead (though Lincoln himself seems to go back and forth between declaring that for himself). Taking control of things for himself is a big part of Lincoln's character.

Another big thing is that Lincoln is coming after a canon point in which the Mountain Men have taken him in and turned him into a cannibalistic drug addict. Essentially, he became a "Reaper," which is a guard that's meant to be able to fight on the Mountain Men's behalf. Lincoln detoxed, but right before he's pulled, he betrays Bellamy and gladly accepts the drug again. (Octavia finds him later on and yells at him and tells him to keep fighting, which knocks him out of this.) Before consenting to come to Eudio, he will need to detox after being approached so he can answer, but he will consent (with some discomfort, in part because he won't necessarily trust the situation after what happened to him before) with the incentive of having no reliance on the drug in the future, down to being able to absolutely any urge to want it. The drug defines his lack of control, which is a big deal given his defiant nature and how he has tried to do anything to not be a monster. Also, the fact that the city promotes consensuality to such an intense degree would help put him at ease.

The part of the city that involves and runs on physical intimacy would be easy for him to contend with. Octavia and Lincoln quickly enter a very physical relationship, and they kiss pretty much at the first moment it's available to them as an option. They also hug and spend their evenings together throughout the series. He would probably never take things to the next step with anyone else in game because of his relationship with Octavia, but he'd be all right with hugging, even if he's naturally a standoffish guy. That's more his stoic personality (he has a cave all to himself) than his discomfort, though.

ANYTHING ELSE?

  • Lincoln will be coming in with a sword!

  • If it doesn't work for Lincoln to have recently taken the drug and to need to detox, I can shift the canon point to just before he takes the drug, but knows he's going to.

  • Given that a big part of Lincoln's journey in S2 is coming to terms with his addiction and taking control of that for himself at the end, if I update him to the end of the season, I will likely be changing his incentive to something else.
